On Sunday, Drew McIntyre emerged victorious in the Men's Royal Rumble match, punching his ticket to a bout with Brock Lesnar at WrestleMania 36. The Scottish Psychopath will look to finally fulfil Vince McMahon's prophecy that he is the chosen one.

However, McIntyre almost didn't receive his push as

Dave Meltzer revealed on Wrestling Observer Radio

that Aleister Black was nearly chosen to win the match and face Lesnar at The Showcase Of The Immortals.

Executive Director Of Monday Night Raw Paul Heyman is high on The Harbinger Of Fury and wants to make him one of the cornerstones of WWE's flagship show. Since being drafted to Raw, Black has been booked strongly on the red brand and is yet to lose a singles match, defeating Buddy Murphy, Tony Nese and Akira Tozawa among others.

For the avoidance of doubt, Meltzer said: "I know that Aleister Black was in the running for the Lesnar match. The decision was made to go with McIntyre and its probably the right decision considering I think it's early for Aleister Black. But he was absolutely in the running for that decision."
