Original AEW Collision Plans To Avoid Going Head-To-Head With WWE SummerSlam Revealed

AEW Collision airing on the same day as a WWE pay-per-view has typically led to a bad night in the ratings for the Saturday night show and All Elite Wrestling will try a different tactic on August 3. To avoid going head-to-head with WWE SummerSlam, Collision will instead air from 5 pm to 7 pm ET on TNT in the United States, with the show being taped on Thursday night at Esports Stadium in Arlington, Texas.

AEW originally planned to air Collision on a completely different night, though, with Dave Meltzer reporting on Wrestling Observer Radio that Collision was initially scheduled internally to air on Friday, August 2.

"They moved Collision to not go head-to-head, that's why it's on at 5 o'clock. I had thought they were going to put Collision on Friday night, which at one point was the plan. That's why they're taping on Thursday this week. They're not going to do a good number for Collision. It's gonna be brutal between SummerSlam and the Olympics. It's gonna be real, real tough for Collision this week," Meltzer said.

AEW Collision will instead air head-to-head against the SummerSlam pre-show and Meltzer speculated on Wrestling Observer Radio that WWE expanded the countdown show to three hours in order to get the one-hour jump on Collision. The SummerSlam pre-show is scheduled to begin at 4 pm ET/9 pm BST.
