Independent pro wrestler and valet Melissa ‘Super Genie’ Coates has passed away.

A native of Ontario, Canada, Coates was a bodybuilder and fitness model before entering the pro wrestling world in 2002.

Trained by Killer Kowalski, Coates worked in WWE’s developmental territory OVW in 2005, and made an appearance at Backlash the same year, taking part in Chris Masters’ Masterlock Challenge. Coates was later part of WWE developmental system Deep South Wrestling where she performed under The Bag Lady gimmick.

After leaving the WWE developmental systems in 2007, Coates worked the Indies, most notably in the NWA and WSU, before taking on the ‘Super Genie’ gimmick in 2014 and serving as ECW original Sabu’s valet - the role for which Coates is best known.

In November 2020, a GoFundMe page was set up for Coates, who, after experiencing excruciating pain due to several blood clots, had to have her leg amputated.

Coates’ passing was announced on Twitter by the Cauliflower Alley Club, and it was noted that Coates passed several days after celebrating her 50th birthday.
