Kevin Owens looks to be facing a period on the sideline, according to Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter.

The Raw Superstar reportedly needs a knee operation - minor surgery for which would require four months of recovery, and more serious surgery eight months.

The idea for Owens to have this procedure seems to have been in the works for a while, so WWE and KO may have planned things in order to have him ready for action by the time WrestleMania rolls around.

Owens' absence looks to have been explained in storyline after an assault by Bobby Lashley on Monday Night Raw. After defeating KO, Lashley returned to the ring and targeted both of his opponent's legs, leading to an announcement of Owens' injury on WWE.com.

Lashley seems to have followed the lead of new manager Lio Rush in becoming a heel, which has sparked rumours of a simultaneous babyface turn for Owens. Answering that question will likely require us to wait until KO is once again an active member of the roster, but if true, it seems a decision that would likely please much of Owens' passionate online following.

There's no confirmation yet on Lashley's first opponent as a heel, although he and Rush got into a minor altercation with Finn Balor and Bayley after the match with Owens - so a Balor vs. Lashley feud could well be on the horizon.

Owens had formed an alliance with Elias before the attack; the pair lost to Lashley and John Cena at WWE Super Show-Down in Melbourne, Australia.
