After Jeff Hardy walked out on WWE and was subsequently released, WWE realised they’d made a mistake and tried to coax the former WWE Champion back and prevent him joining brother Matt Hardy in AEW.

One of WWE’s overtures to bring Jeff back was a spot in the WWE Hall of Fame, which Hardy himself rejected, and the ‘Charismatic Enigma’ has spoken of why he turned down WWE’s offer, telling Chris Jericho on Talk is Jericho:

“Well, first of all, I don’t want to go in there without my brother and it’s not my time. This is too early. This is crazy. So yeah, it was very emotional. I was like, ‘What are they trying to do because naturally, I’m going to be reunited with my brother in AEW when I’m free of WWE,’” said Hardy. “I told my wife what had happened. I said, ‘I can’t believe what they just offered me.’ So it was very emotional, but I happily declined it.”

The Hardys are more than hall of fame worthy, with the team’s innovative ladder and TLC matches against Edge & Christian and The Dudley Boyz in WWE’s Attitude Era some of the most lauded and groundbreaking matches of all time.
