CM Punk has seemingly announced the date of his next UFC fight, replying to a critical MMA fan with a confident tweet predicting his victory:

The former WWE Champion made his mixed martial arts debut at UFC 203 in September 2016, losing via first round submission to Mickey Gall.

Punk now seems to have confirmed the date of his second fight as June 9th this year, the date of UFC 225 in his hometown of Chicago, Illinois. There is no clue, however, as to the identity of his opponent.

Punk's name has been tied to the wrestling industry more than usual in recent months. There is, of course, near-constant speculation over an eventual WWE return, but this time he has been linked with the independent scene.

Bullet Club have made no secret of their desire to woo Punk, speaking in various interviews about their attempts to lure him back to professional wrestling (ideally as a member of their stable). Punk has playfully rebuffed such advances on social media, refusing to comment on any notion of a return - although the fact that he has responded rather than simply ignoring the posts is certainly interesting.

Rumours of his return to wrestling were intensified after the location of September's 'All In' pay per view (a self-financed event led by Cody Rhodes and The Young Bucks) was revealed to be a suburb of Chicago.

There's no talk of Punk's next career move, whether he wins or loses the upcoming UFC bout. At 39 years old, the thought of him pushing for a third fight could see age play a considerable role.
