AJ Styles Reaches Massive WWE Milestone
SmackDown Live's premier champion is celebrating today...
Sep 5, 2018
WWE Champion AJ Styles has passed a massive milestone today, as he has now held SmackDown Live's main title for 300 days.
During that time - and you might want to close your ears now, Brock Lesnar - The Phenomenal One has defended the championship nine times on televised events. And considering he's only entering his 10th month as champ at this stage, that's pretty impressive going.
In passing 300 days as champion, AJ joins the likes of Bruno Sammartino, Bob Backlund, Pedro Morales, Hulk Hogan, Randy Savage, Kevin Nash, John Cena & CM Punk as the only stars to achieve the feat.
Styles won the WWE Championship from Jinder Mahal on an episode of SmackDown Live held in Machester, England last November - the last time the title was on the line in a non-PPV event. His most recent defence occurred at SummerSlam last month, where The Champ That Runs The Camp got himself disqualified in a bout where it's fair to say his opponent, Samoa Joe, went a bit too far.
The Samoan Submission Machine will once again challenge for Styles' title at the Hell in a Cell pay-per-view on 16 September.
While he isn't the longest reigning champion in the entire company today - that honour goes to WWE United Kingdom Champion, Pete Dunne - Styles is the longest-reigning main roster champion and will be setting his sights on eclipsing yet another milestone - Lesnar's 504-day reign as Universal Champion. The Beast won Raw's main title from Goldberg at WrestleMania 33 in Orlando, Florida, before losing it to Roman Reigns at SummerSlam in Brooklyn a few weeks ago.
