Whether you believe in ‘forbidden doors’ or not, the recent talent exchange between AEW, NJPW, and IMPACT has been exciting for fans, and offered up some matches and scenarios we’d have barely believe six months ago.
The latest crossover saw NJPW legend Yuji Nagata take on AEW’s Jon Moxley for the IWGP United States Heavyweight Championship on last week’s edition of AEW: Dynamite, the first time Nagata had been on TNT since wrestling for WCW in the late 1990s.
Speaking to Tokyo Sports after the event, Nagata said the following:
“Everyone was pleased that I came, and it’s a strange feeling. I don’t think it’s evaluated in Japan, but I feel that it’s being evaluated very much worldwide. I’m surprised too. [Tony Khan said], ‘Please come back anytime.’
Aside from the experience of wrestling for AEW, Nagata said being in the USA at this time was a positive experience of itself:
“One thing I found out when I went to the United States is that I can see the future of the Coronavirus. I’m going to get vaccinated and I can [get] it at the supermarket in that area. The city is also bright. I have a feeling of ‘let’s do it’ in response to such a big cheer. Now, the number of [shows] is limited, and not everyone can [compete]. Use [it] while there are no [shows] in Japan, (NJPW) STRONG or go abroad.”
