Why AEW Scrapped Elton John's 'Saturday Night's Alright (For Fighting)' As Collision Theme

All Elite Wrestling replacing Elton John's 'Saturday Night's Alright (For Fighting)' as the theme of Collision was simply a cost-cutting measure, according to Dave Meltzer on Wrestling Observer Radio. The theme music change comes amid a wave of cutbacks to Collision that has seen the show set up a Summer residency at the Esports Stadium in Arlington, Texas from July 20 to August 17.

"A lot of heat, obviously, because they changed the opening theme. It's interesting because people keep bringing it up and it's true, there's a lot of cutbacks being made in production. You would think this would not be the time to do that. Obviously this Arlington residency, the whole thing there is cost-saving...They dumped the Elton John song and they put their own new song in place. And obviously that's a cost-saving thing but I thought the Elton John, to me, that was a real cool open. Again, I'm sure it's money that they could save and maybe use for bringing in Bobby Lashley or whoever [laughs]," Meltzer said.

Elton John's song was replaced by 'Red Light Is On (Let's Go)' by AEW's in-house music team. AEW music head Mikey Rukus admitted he knew the new theme would be "universally hated."

All Elite Wrestling are currently in negotiations with Warner Bros. Discovery over a new media rights deal. As of last word, the two sides were believed to have reached an agreement in principle.
