Nick Aldis' time as a babyface in IMPACT Wrestling is over.

The former NWA Worlds Heavyweight Champion is the current number one contender for Alex Shelley's IMPACT World Title after he won the 8-4-1 Match at Against All Odds on June 9. Alex Shelley opened the post-Against All Odds episode of IMPACT with Chris Sabin, only for them to be interrupted by Aldis, who expressed his admiration for Shelley before he stated he would defeat him for the IMPACT World Title at Slammiversary.

Following more interruptions, a 10-person tag team match was set for the main event of IMPACT that saw The Motor City Machine Guns, Nick Aldis, Deonna Purrazzo, and Trinity defeat Trey Miguel, Kenny King, Sheldon Jean, Gisele Shaw, and Savannah Evans.

Shelley picked up the win for his team and Aldis bowed down to the former Baby Bear, offering to hand him the IMPACT World Championship. As Shelley was about to grab the title, however, Aldis suddenly levelled his Slammiversary opponent with the belt. The National Treasure then stood over Shelley before he was chased away by Chris Sabin.

Shelley and Aldis are scheduled to go one-on-one for the IMPACT World Championship at Slammiversary on Saturday, July 15.

Aldis has been back with IMPACT Wrestling since returning to the promotion at the Rebellion pay-per-view in April. He signed a deal with IMPACT a couple of weeks later, with reports at the time noting Aldis would be featured at the top of the card.
