Tony Khan: The Pandemic Made It Obvious Who Was Taking Their Time With Stories

The height of the COVID-19 pandemic was an unprecedented time for all walks of life, including professional wrestling.

Whilst the majority of wrestling companies ceased operation for the majority of 2020, some of the bigger wrestling promotions were able to keep going and producing content, such as WWE and AEW.

With WWE utilising the Performance Center and then the Thunderdome, and AEW sticking to their home base of Daily’s Place, it was business as usual. But in conversation with The Washington Post, AEW President Tony Khan spoke of what the pandemic showed him with regards to wrestling:

“The pandemic made it more obvious who was putting more time into the stories, and who was trying to put on more quality national television,” said Khan.

Despite a couple of mis-steps, AEW on the whole pleased their fanbase throughout the pandemic, with Khan saying: “I don’t think you’ll ever please every wrestling fan, but if you can make most of the fans happy most of the time, then you’ll have a great fan base. That passion has been within the fans all along. The fans were just looking for an outlet to express it.”
