NJPW Resurgence 2023 was a night chock full of title switches, with Willow Nightingale becoming the inaugural NJPW STRONG Women’s Champion, and Aussie Open vacating the IWGP and STRONG tag team championships.

The NJPW STRONG Openweight Championship also changed hands at the show, with KENTA regaining the title from Hikuleo 18 days after the former Bullet Club member took the title from KENTA at Wrestling Dontaku on May 3.

KENTA may have only got the win via count-out, but it was enough to force a title change, with the NOAH legend regaining the title he first won in February 2023.

The new champ won’t have time to rest on his laurels, though, as after the bout a video message played from Eddie Kingston, with ‘The Mad King’ challenging whomever will be in possession of the belt to a match at some point in the future. No date has been set for a potential match, but it looks likely that a title challenge could take place at the STRONG PPV shows on July 4 and July 5, with Kingston having been announced for the shows.
