Ricky Starks Replacing Mark Henry On AEW Rampage Commentary
Reports suggest a commentary shake-up is in the works
Sep 21, 2021
AEW Rampage is already set for a commentary shake-up, with FTW Champion Absolute Ricky Starks slated to replace Mark Henry in the announcer’s booth.
Starks handled commentary duties on the September 17 edition of Rampage, and during an interview with Wrestletalk, it seems as though the move could be permanent:
"I am definitely proud of AEW, the work I've done in AEW and the work I continue to do. The fact that, I think so much that they appreciate me that they made me a permanent commentator for Rampage, replacing Mark [Henry]. I love that fact. I love the fact that the work I've done with Sting and Darby and all of these things in such a small timeframe will last forever. I want more though. I really do. I want to push myself more and explore the depths of my talent and get out of my comfort zone.”
However, a report from Figure Four Online states that Starks will not be permanently on commentary, as Rampage is moving towards a rotating model, with different broadcasters joining the core team each week. It is unknown as yet how the rotation will work, or who will be involved.
So far Rampage’s main commentary trio consists of Excalibur, Taz, and Chris Jericho, with Mark Henry, Ricky Starks and CM Punk having provided a fourth voice in the past. If this shake-up is true, then it’s assumed that Mark Henry will permanently become a backstage interviewer in the ‘Mean Gene’ mould, a role he’s been fulfilling since Rampage’s debut.
