Rey Mysterio

Former WWE World Heavyweight Champion Rey Mysterio has reportedly signed a two-year deal with the company.

Wrestling Standard

are reporting the news, with their sources claiming the deal will commence on August 1 and Rey scheduled to make his televised return on the SmackDown Live show two days after SummerSlam in Brooklyn.

Mysterio apparently met with WWE officials 10 days ago when Raw emanated from San Diego, and despite Vince McMahon not being in attendance for the meeting, both parties were able to come to an agreement.

This is the second huge slice of Rey Mysterio and WWE news in as many weeks as the master of the 619 has also been announced as a pre-order bonus character for the WWE 2K19 video game.

The relationship between Rey and WWE has appeared to become stronger as the year has gone on. After making a sensational shock return as part of the Royal Rumble match in January - where he eliminated Adam Cole, no less - he also turned out as part of the Greatest Royal Rumble match in Saudi Arabia three months later.

It's been a busy year for Mysterio because as well as appearing at a couple of WWE's biggest events, he was also a mainstay for now-defunct British promotion 5 Star Wrestling, wrestled for AAA, and more recently made his long-awaited debut for New Japan Pro Wrestling. There, he teamed with Jushin Thunder Liger and Hiroshi Tanahashi in a losing effort against Bullet Club's Cody (Rhodes), Marty Scurll and Adam Page.

As soon as official confirmation has been made by WWE, we'll let you know!
