Report: WWE's SmackDown Fist Possibly Returning To Show's Set Upon Move To Fox
Ruthless Aggression returns?
Aug 5, 2019
Eighteen years ago, SmackDown underwent a radical change in its set design, replacing the rather basic oval-ringed entrance set with a more elaborate appearance. Most notably, this included a giant fist billowing out from the stage's wall.
The recognizable fist remained part of the set until 2008, when the Raw and SmackDown sets changed at the dawn of the HD era.
According to
Brad Shepard of Pro Sports Extra, that popular SmackDown fist is reportedly on its way back once the show moves to Friday nights on Fox in October.
Writes Shepard, "As I previously reported, a new set with an Attitude Era-feel is coming to #WWE #SDLive on Fox. I’m told the plan is for the new set to feature the return of the Smackdown fist. The fist is currently ready for use and in storage."
WWE themselves have not made any statements about the show's possible change in aesthetic.
The giant fist debuted on a live edition of SmackDown that aired on August 16, 2001. That was one week after Rhyno gored Chris Jericho through the previous SmackDown set, as a means of visually "killing it off".
