Vince McMahon is said to have 'wanted to bury' WWE Superstar Cedric Alexander at Clash of Champions, according to Dave Meltzer on today's
Wrestling Observer Radio.
According to Meltzer, he was told by a source on Sunday 'that Vince McMahon wanted to bury [Alexander].'
The former Cruiserweight Champion was featured on the Clash of Champions pre-show, losing to AJ Styles in a United States title match.
The victory was a surprisingly straightforward one for Styles, given Cedric's apparent push of late. Although the challenger did get some offence in, AJ was rarely troubled en route to victory. At one stage, he even pulled Alexander's shoulders off the mat at the count of two, choosing to dish out further punishment when it was implied he had the match won.
Styles did eventually secure the pinfall following a Styles Clash. He and the OC then proceeded to beat up Cedric after the bell.
Meltzer was unable to provide an explanation for this apparent booking decision, stating 'I don't know why you would want to [bury Alexander].'
On last night's Raw, the booking of Cedric followed a similar pattern. He was pinned by Styles in a six-man tag team match, before again suffering further punishment after the bell - this time in the form of a second-rope Styles Clash.
