Report: Update On MJF's AEW Absence
Where is MJF?
Aug 4, 2022
Maxwell Jacob Friedman has not appeared on AEW TV since the post-Double Or Nothing episode of Dynamite where he demanded Tony Khan fire him. MJF had been frustrated with his AEW contract prior to Double Or Nothing and he no-showed the pay-per-view fan fest as a result. A flight for Friedman was then reportedly booked out of Las Vegas but he did not get on the plane, instead going ahead with his match with Wardlow. Many believe the situation around Double Or Nothing began as a shoot but that it has since become a work.
In an update on MJF's absence, Fightful Select reported that they haven't heard from any AEW talents or staffers who have heard from Friedman since the post-Double Or Nothing edition of Dynamite. Those close to Friedman have also claimed that he has not spoken to them. Those Fightful spoke to have not heard Tony Khan mention MJF since June 1 either.
What exactly MJF has been up to during his AEW absence is unknown but the three-time Dynamite Diamond Ring winner did remain in Los Angeles after June 1 for "on-screen, non-wrestling related meetings." A rumour last week also suggested MJF was filming with the cast members of Impractical Jokers in New Jersey.
Some within All Elite Wrestling still believe that Friedman is "on his way out of the company and wants to go to WWE."
