Last week, AEW President Tony Khan announced he was working on ‘something massive’ which would be officially revealed at some point this week.

Speculation has ran wild since Khan’s revelation, with a report from The Wrestling Observer’s Dave Meltzer stating that Khan had been in meetings all day Thursday trying to put this supposed ‘massive deal’ together.

There has been no indication as to what Khan is set to announce, but fans are seemingly in agreement that this feels different and bigger than a simple talent acquisition announcement.

The three most common theories are that Khan is either set to announce a ‘Supershow’ - possibly with New Japan pro Wrestling - a new TV deal, or some form of AEW streaming service.

The idea of an AEW/NJPW Supershow is the one catching the imagination of fans the most, and with 2022 serving as NJPW’s 50th anniversary it would certainly make sense.

NJPW IWGP World Heavyweight Champion Kazuchika Okada echoed this sentiment last year, telling Sports Illustrated “When the world calms down, I would like to give back with other wrestling companies to all wrestling fans in the world who still support us even in this current situation. New Japan, WWE, AEW, CMLL, AAA all together. Sounds pretty cool, don’t you think? I want to show how powerful professional wrestling is, I want to cheer everyone up with that power.”

As for now we’ll simply have to wait and see.
