After dropping the ROH World Championship to Claudio Castagnoli at ROH Death Before Dishonor 2022, reports emerged stating that Jonathan Gresham had requested his AEW/ROH release prior to the match taking place, amidst a heated discussion with AEW/ROH President Tony Khan.

Since then, speculation on Gresham’s in-ring future has been rampant, despite claims that ‘The Foundation’ was ‘done’ with the business for time-being. However, a report from Fightful Select has shed some more light on Gresham’s situation.

Despite Gresham indicating that he is done with wrestling for the time being, many of his co-workers don’t believe that Gresham will actually step away from the ring, as he loves pro wrestling too much.

It also hasn’t been confirmed if Gresham has actually been granted his release, with no bridges believed to have been burned by Gresham during his heated discussion with Khan. For AEW/ROH’s part, they were pleased with how Gresham vs. Castagnoli played out, with many respecting Gresham’s professionalism for sticking to the plan and performing, despite his unhappiness.

As for the time being, Gresham isn’t being factored into AEW/ROH plans in the wake of him asking for his release.
