Report: Jim Ross Transitioning Out Of Full-Time Announcer Role in AEW
Will continue to be used for certain matches and other roles
Aug 28, 2021
AEW broadcaster Jim Ross appears to be transitioning out of his role as a full-time announcer for the organization, according to an original report from Ringside News, confirmed through other sources by Cassidy Haynes of bodyslam.net.
Haynes writes, "JR is set to transition out of the position as an announcer and member of the commentary team on a full-time basis ... Ross will still announce some of the company’s big matches and major events, but AEW is planning on using him in other capacities."
The report goes on to state that Ross would also continue to do the sit-down interviews that he's periodically done since the company's inception.
According to the report, this decision was Ross' call.
Ross signed a three-year deal with AEW in the spring of 2019, which would lapse in April of 2022. The report adds that when Ross' deal expires, that it likely wouldn't be renewed for the position and job responsibilities that he originally signed for (meaning if he were to re-sign with AEW, it would have to be under different terms).
