Report: Further Details On Tony Khan Buying ROH

After initial reports on Tuesday that parties were interested in buying Ring Of Honor, Tony Khan announced on AEW Dynamite that he had purchased the promotion from Sinclair Broadcast Group. Along with owning the promotion, Khan is now in possession of ROH's extensive video library dating back to 2002.

Reports previously noted several parties had been interested in buying ROH since early 2020 and Fightful Select added on Wednesday that another offer came in recently and "Joe Koff and Sinclair wanted to go that direction."

Only a "very close circle" knew about the purchase before Khan's announcement on Dynamite but word had begun to spread on Tuesday night that the AEW president had bought ROH. Original ROH World Champion Jonathan Gresham was also recently backstage at AEW's taping in Bridgeport, Connecticut which raised suspicion. Flip Gordon was backstage at Dynamite recently too.

Many within WWE thought Khan's massive announcement was in regards to him buying a Japanese tape library but that didn't end up happening. Which library Khan was said to be interested in is unclear beyond that it wasn't New Japan Pro-Wrestling's.

Ring Of Honor have been on hiatus since Final Battle 2021 but the promotion are set to return on April 1 with Supercard Of Honor. Several talents have already been booked for the event but they did not know about Khan's purchase ahead of time and they found out about it at the time of the announcement like everybody else.

ROH also have TV tapings planned for the rest of the year. If ROH will continue to air on Sinclair syndication is currently unknown.

The Supercard Of Honor card still requires several more matches and the card had not been completed internally at the time of Khan's announcement. Before the purchase, ROH weren't confident AEW talent would be able to appear on the show but that won't be an issue any longer.
