The botched final explosion at the close of the Exploding Barbed Wire Death Match at AEW: Revolution reportedly worked perfectly multiple times during rehearsals.

A fantastic All Elite Wrestling pay-per-view ended underwhelmingly on Sunday as the final, massive explosion planned for 30 minutes after the opening bell of the main event - an Exploding Barbed Wire Death match for the AEW World Championship - failed to work.

Instead, a small puff of smoke and what appeared to be sparkler effects went off on the ring posts, leading to frustration from AEW officials and Kenny Omega and a hasty explanation in a post-show promo by Jon Moxley.

Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter is now reporting that the final explosion was tested out a number of times prior to Sunday's show and 'worked great every time'. Unfortunately for AEW, it failed to work during the actual show and no back-up plan had been organised.

Meltzer would go on to say that the result would be the most negative feedback to an AEW show in history, but did note that the PPV numbers for the event do look to be the strongest ever for the company, generating the most money of any non-WWE show in the United States in almost 22 years.
