The relationship between Warner Bros. Discovery and All Elite Wrestling is believed to be strong, with AEW airing three different weekly shows across WBD networks, as well as the Battle of the Belts specials.
The two sides are believed to be in the midst of contract negotiations regarding a new and/or improved deal, with some wondering if AEW content could end up on WBD’s MAX streaming platform.
Per a report from Dave Meltzer in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, All In on August 27 was initially set to air on MAX, but instead was presented as a traditional pay-per-view event as the ‘technology wasn’t ready in time’.
Meltzer states that there is believed to be some negotiation between the two sides, with All In being a financial success on PPV it would make little to no financial sense on AEW’s side to air it as part of a streaming deal.
Reports from Bloomberg have suggested that MAX will soon air live sports, with basketball, baseball, and hockey coverage believed to be starting shortly on the platform. It is further believed that after an introductory run on the service, MAX will introduce an additional sports tier for an extra subscription, prompting speculation that AEW live events could end up on this tier.
