New Japan Pro-Wrestling have a new championship.

In an announcement at today's Declaration of Power show from Ryoguku Kokugikan, NJPW President Takami Ohbari praised TV Asahi before he unveiled the NJPW World Television Championship. The new belt will be aimed at the promotion's younger talents and title matches will be high-paced with a 15-minute time limit. The title will be defended in towns that wouldn't normally see a title match, Ohbari revealed.

A tournament to crown the inaugural champion will begin on October 14, with the final taking place at Wrestle Kingdom 17 on January 4, 2023. Who will be in the tournament has yet to be revealed.

Professional wrestling has featured numerous television titles over the years, particularly in the National Wrestling Alliance and World Championship Wrestling.

Several titles are already defended in New Japan, including the IWGP World Heavyweight Championship, IWGP Heavyweight and Junior Heavyweight Tag Team titles, and the NEVER Openweight Title.

Also revealed at Declaration of Power was the latest member of Los Ingobernables de Japon. Find out who it was here.
