Nic Nemeth Originally Wasn't Planned To Win TNA World Title At Slammiversary

TNA Slammiversary 2024 ended with a new men’s World Champion, with Nic Nemeth emerging from the six-man elimination main event with the title over his shoulder after last eliminating Frankie Kazarian to capture his first singles title in the company.

A report from Fightful Select suggests that Nemeth wasn’t originally planned to win the title at the pay-per-view. Many assumed the stage was being set for Joe Hendry to lift the title after his huge surge in popularity due to his cross-promotional work between TNA and WWE NXT, however a Hendry win was never on the cards, with original plans calling for Josh Alexander to win the title for a third time.

Plans were apparently in place for Alexander to win the belt heading into June, but it’s believed the choice to not crown ‘The Walking Weapon’ after his mid-match heel turn was due to TNA management believing a feud between Alexander and Hendry was strong enough on its own without the championship at stake.

Nemeth’s win saw him pick up his third title in three companies in 2024, having earlier held the IWGP Global Heavyweight Championship in New Japan Pro-Wrestling, whilst Nemeth also currently reigns as AAA Mega Champion.
