The first match has been set for NJPW Resurgence.

Resurgence is scheduled to take place at the Torch at LA Coliseum on August 14 and Jay White will defend the NEVER Openweight Championship against David Finlay in a headline match.

This will be the first time White has defended the gold since defeating Hiroshi Tanahashi for the title at Wrestling Dontaku. White announced following the win that he wanted his first defence to be against Finlay.

The Switchblade and Finlay have history going back to their time as Young Lions together and they rekindled their hostilities earlier this year during the New Japan Cup. Finlay picked up a shock win over White in the tournament and the former IWGP Heavyweight Champion has been out to exact revenge for the loss ever since.

Fans will be able to watch Resurgence live on August 14, but unlike previous NJPW events, English commentary will only be available on FITE TV. The show will still be available on NJPW World, but only with Japanese commentary.
