AEW World Champion MJF has questioned how All Elite Wrestling booked him after the end of his feud with Cody Rhodes.
Friedman's first major programme in AEW was with The American Nightmare after MJF turned on his mentor and cost him the AEW World Championship at Full Gear 2019. Cody would ultimately earn a match with Friedman, suffering 10 lashes from a whip to do so, and they went one-on-one at Revolution 2020, only for Friedman to come out on top after using the Dynamite Diamond Ring.
The COVID-19 pandemic began soon after which forced many talents to remain at home but Friedman continued to appear, being used as one of the 'fans' in the crowd before he returned to the ring on May 13 with a win over Lee Johnson.
Speaking about that period with Sports Illustrated, Friedman said:
"People might not remember this, but after my feud with Cody Rhodes [in 2020], I was sat out. Literally. I had to sit behind the guardrail. I sat beside Shawn Spears and Shawn Dean and Sonny Kiss and all these other people, and I had to sit there and watch the shows. I remember thinking to myself, 'Are you guys f*****g stupid? I'm literally the biggest star here. What's happening here?'"
MJF has experienced a considerable amount of success in All Elite Wrestling since his feud with Cody Rhodes and he is now the reigning AEW World Champion following his win against Jon Moxley at Full Gear.
