Malakai Black wrestled a rare singles bout on an All Elite Wrestling pay-per-view, with the leader of the House of Black battling Adam Copeland in a bloody barbed wire cage match at Double or Nothing on May 26.

Although headlines coming out of the match centred around Copeland’s broken leg and the appearance by Gangrel, a follow-up report from PWInsider states that Black is ‘really banged up’ from the bout.

Black bladed early in the match and bled heavily throughout, with some in AEW concerned for Black due to the amount of blood he lost during the bout. Black is described as being OK, just banged up and exhausted, which is par for the course considering the type of match he had with Copeland.

Double or Nothing was the first time Black had competed in singles competition on PPV since the AEW All Atlantic Championship four-way match at Forbidden Door 2022, which in turn was his only non-tag or trios PPV appearance for the company. Black has competed in four one-on-one matches in AEW so far in 2024.
