While Kenny Omega had memorable feuds with the likes of Cody Rhodes, Chris Jericho and Kazuchika Okada in New Japan Pro-Wrestling, The Cleaner also faced one of the promotion's top stars in Tetsuya Naito on three occasions.

All three of Naito and Omega's matches came in the G1 Climax and Omega won their first singles match in 2016 before Naito emerged victorious in 2017 to win that year's tournament. Omega would get revenge one year later, though, as while IWGP Heavyweight Champion, The Best Bout Machine defeated Naito to begin his B Block campaign.

While he may have won their most recent encounter, Omega still wants revenge for his G1 Climax final loss.

After it was pointed out to the former AEW World Champion that NJPW fans had voted their 2017 match as the best match of Naito's career, Omega replied: "I take the utmost pride in being so many athletes' best match. The list is enormous. What matters most to me though, is that when we fought in the G1 Finals, I lost. I want to defeat him again on a big stage."

While a rematch would have been unlikely to take place a couple of years ago with Naito in NJPW and Omega in All Elite Wrestling, both promotions have since struck up a working relationship and several Japanese stars have passed through the forbidden door.
