WWE announced during Extreme Rules on Sunday night that the July 22nd edition of Monday Night Raw would be entitled "Raw Reunion", another in a series of nostalgia-centric events in which stars of yesteryear jazz up the show with special appearances.

Various icons from Steve Austin to Hulk Hogan to Shawn Michaels to Bret Hart were shown in the commercial for the event, though longtime announcer Jim Ross was understandably absent, what with him currently working for the upstart All Elite Wrestling.

But that didn't stop WWE from reaching out to their former employee of 26 years.

According to Dominic DeAngelo at WrestleZone

, during a live edition of Grilling JR in Jacksonville on Thursday night, Ross mentioned that Vince McMahon invited him to the event. This was before any public announcement of Raw Reunion was made.

Ross noted that Tony Khan was in favor of letting him appear at the event, but the veteran announcer ultimately chose to decline.

Ross' WWE deal ended the final week of March 2019. The following week, he signed a three-year deal to become a commentator and adviser for AEW.
