New Japan Pro-Wrestling announced earlier today that the new IWGP World Heavyweight Championship Belt will be revealed on the March 30 Road To Sakura Genesis show at Korakuen Hall. Champion Kota Ibushi is scheduled to team with Satoshi Kojima and Hiroyoshi Tenzan in the main event against Will Ospreay, Jeff Cobb and Great-O-Khan.

The unveiling of the new belt comes only days ahead of The Golden Star's first title defence against New Japan Cup 2021 Winner Will Ospreay at Sakura Genesis on April 4.

Ibushi had been lobbying to unify the IWGP Heavyweight Title and IWGP Intercontinental Championship ever since he won the double title at Wrestle Kingdom 15. He successfully defended both titles against SANADA at The New Beginning In Hiroshima and NJPW decided to grant Ibushi his request after he successfully defended the IWGP Intercontinental Championship against Tetsuya Naito at Castle Attack.

The Golden Star then successfully defended both titles one more time before their unification at the 49th Anniversary Show against El Desperado.
