New Japan Pro Wrestling made their way to the United States over the weekend with their Fighting Spirit Unleashed show taking place at the Walter Pyramid in Long Beach, California. Already, attentions have turned to the next big event on the company's calendar, with a huge main event announced for King of Pro-Wrestling.

In what will be only the second time the main title has been defended in a triple threat match, Kenny Omega will put his IWGP Heavyweight Championship on the line at NJPW King of Pro-Wrestling on 8 October against Kota Ibushi and Cody.

The match came about after The Best Bout Machine and his Golden Lover Ibushi saw off the Chaos team of Kazuchika Okada and Tomohiro Ishii at Fight Spirit Unleashed. Kenny initially made it clear that he only wanted to face Kota for the title before his Bullet Club compadre Cody came out to insert himself in the match. Kenny then made it clear that he liked the idea before giving the match the green light. Earlier in the night, of course, the new NWA Worlds Heavyweight Champion added the IWGP United States Heavyweight Championship to his collection, defeating Juice Robinson.

This is the second match to be announced for King of Pro-Wrestling after it was confirmed Marty Scurll will face KUSHIDA for the vacant IWGP Jr. Heavyweight Championship. At Fighting Spirit Unleashed, KUSHIDA teamed with Hiroshi Tanahashi in a losing effort against Jay White and Gedo, while Marty defeated old rival Will Ospreay thanks to a Package Piledriver, Graduation combination.
