AEW Women’s World Champion Hikaru Shida faces her sternest test on Sunday at Double or Nothing when she puts the title on the line against Britt Baker.

Both women have risen to the top of AEW’s Women’s division, but Shida has had to rely on her wrestling skills and in-ring storytelling in the wake of limited mic time. Talking to Sports Illustrated’s Justin Barrasso , Shida said she wants to change this up;

“More than being a babyface or a heel, I’ve always tried being myself. I always want to show you Hikaru Shida’s life through my wrestling.”

Shida continued, “I understand that TV time is limited, so I’ve kept practicing and waiting for my chance. Please look forward to that.”

Polishing her English skills haven’t been the only thing on Shida’s mind, with the PPV showdown against Britt Baker set to be one of the biggest women’s division matches in AEW history.

“She [Baker] is the type of person who studies pro wrestling more than anyone else in AEW,” Shida said, “Her progress in these years is proof of that.”

“This match is going to be one of the toughest and most emotional matches in AEW history. Those are two very important elements for a great match. And after it is over, I’ll celebrate my win with all fans at Double or Nothing.”
