ELIAS

WWE Superstar Elias was pulled from the King of the Ring tournament last night, with WWE citing an injury as the reason.

At the time, it was unclear whether this was a legitimate injury or a storyline device. However,

PWInsider

has reported that Elias has indeed suffered an ankle injury, and that the decision was made to remove him from action on the day of the show.

It's unclear how severe Elias' injury is, or how long he'll be out of action. Needless to say, we'd like to wish him a speedy recovery.

Elias' removal from SmackDown prompted a re-write. He was scheduled to face Chad Gable in a King of the Ring semi-final match. PWInsider have also revealed that one potential plan was to hold a battle royal to determine Gable's new opponent, but Vince McMahon reportedly made the call to make Shane the replacement.

Gable defeated Shane in a match officiated by special guest referee Kevin Owens, and progresses to the King of the Ring final to meet Baron Corbin. That match was originally scheduled for Clash of Champions this Sunday, but now appears to have been moved to next week's Raw.
