It's a rumour that has taken the internet by storm over the last few weeks, with many believing that Roman Reigns and The Rock could have been on for a monumental singles match at WWE WrestleMania 35.

Reported by many sources online over the last little while, the supposed plan for Rocky's latest WWE return was to see him win the 2019 Royal Rumble and then challenge The Big Dog for the Universal Championship - this, of course, was the alleged plan before Reigns made his battle with Leukaemia public.

However, Dave Meltzer of the

Wrestling Observer Newsletter

has claimed the alleged plans were unsubstantiated from the getgo. According to Dave, Rock vs. Reigns was never on the cards for 'Mania 35 even before Roman went public with his illness.

On the F4WOnline message board, Dave was asked about the plans, claiming they "didn't sound believable" before checking with a source to confirm that the rumour was "not true at all."

Rocky has made it clear that he wants to get back in a WWE ring one day, saying he

"couldn't wait" to back in July

. The People's Champion then showed just how much pro wrestling still means to him, saying: “There’s nothing like it inside a WWE ring because there’s a certain live crowd acumen, there’s great connective tissue that is second to none and that always will be the best part of my job when it comes to wrestling – whether I’m actually wrestling a match, or just giving a promo.”

The Rock and WrestleMania are continuously linked these days, and even though the rumour of a match with Roman Reigns has been rubbished, could WWE have something else up their sleeve for The Brahma Bull?
