CM Punk last fought inside a UFC Octagon in June when he lost to Mike Jackson in a welterweight bout at UFC 225. He hasn't been involved in the sport since then, but now we know what his next role is going to be.
The former WWE Champion has joined the announce team for Cage Fury Fighting Championships, news confirmed by
MMAJunkieearlier today. Punk will be making his broadcasting debut at the CFFC 71 event on 14 December at the Borgata Hotel Casino & Spa in Atlantic City - the event will air on UFC Fight Pass.
“I can’t wait for this opportunity to call the CFFC fights on UFC Fight Pass,” Punk said in a statement. “CFFC has a long history of putting on exciting fights featuring some of the sport’s up-and-coming athletes. This card is going to be a lot of fun. I’m really excited to have the chance to be a part of it.”
“CM Punk’s knowledge and passion for MMA is incredible. His charisma and personality make him a perfect fit for this role,” CFFC president Rob Haydak said.“By pairing him with Mike Gill, a true sports broadcasting veteran who has been around the fight game his whole career in Atlantic City. We have a great combination for our first show on UFC Fight Pass.”
Fans of WWE who also dabble in the realms of MMA will be joyful about the news, as when Punk took over Raw commentary duties towards the end of 2010 he stole the show on more than one occasion.
