It’s been 24 long years since the wrestling world felt the amazing might of Captain Insano.

However, on the November 16 edition of AEW: Dynamite, The Captain made a rare appearance, appearing alongside The Acclaimed during a diss track aimed at Swerve In Our Glory - The Acclaimed’s opponents at Full Gear on November 19.

Captain Insano is of course Paul Wight, with the origins of the character dating back to Adam Sandler’s 1998 smash hit The Waterboy. In the movie, Sandler’s character Bobby is ridiculed by Captain Insano on live TV for being a grown man who believes in kayfabe. Harsh.

The re-emergence of Captain Insano has been long teased by Wight and AEW, however fans shouldn’t be expecting a legendary title laden run like the 90s, as Wight has only wrestled a handful of times since joining AEW in early 2021.

Wight commented on Insano’s return in July 2022:

“Let’s be honest – I don’t think this character is going to be a killer going out there trying to beat Jon Moxley for the AEW World Championship,” Wight said. “At this point, I think this character is just to have fun. We’ll see how it goes, but for me right now, this is just a chance to have fun with this character and be a bright spot on the show. We’ll see how I’m feeling, and we’ll see how everybody takes off with it.”
