Brian Cage Would Have Won The World Title From Tessa Blanchard Had He Re-signed With IMPACT Wrestling
Another title run for The Machine
Oct 19, 2021
Brian Cage would have become a two-time IMPACT World Champion had he remained with the promotion in 2020.
Cage was one of IMPACT Wrestling's top stars at the time of his departure, with the world title picture being centred around The Machine, Sami Callihan and Tessa Blanchard.
Blanchard would defeat Cage in a number one contendership gauntlet to earn her world title shot at Hard To Kill. The Queen Of The Carolinas then pinned Sami Callihan for the gold at the January 2020 pay-per-view, which was also Cage's final appearance for the company.
Speaking to Dynamite Download, Cage revealed he would have turned heel on Blanchard and then defeated her to win the IMPACT World Championship had he re-signed with the promotion. Cage also reflected on wrestling as a face, noting that he prefers being a heel than a babyface.
"I enjoy being a face more. If I had stayed with IMPACT instead of going to AEW, I was going to turn heel and that would have been my perfect heel character because I was going to come out and celebrate with Tessa, and then I was going to take her head off. That was going to be a feud with Tessa, I would get my win back and the title from her," Cage revealed.
"I've never been able to be this heel. Every time I've been a heel, it's always to be the strong, silent, meathead, high school bully kind of heel, which I can't stand. I fit the role, obviously, but it's so stereotypical and vanilla to me. There aren't different things you can do with it. I enjoy being a face because I like the excitement, intensity, and I can do more of my flashy moves. I'm not one who always buys into, 'You can't do that move because you're a heel.'"
Cage would ultimately depart IMPACT Wrestling in January 2020 and he made his AEW debut at Double Or Nothing in May. Blanchard, meanwhile, remained IMPACT World Champion until she was stripped of the title and fired by IMPACT in June.
