Independent wrestler Jon West recently announced Black Wrestlers Matter - A Celebration Of Black Professional Wrestling. The show will take place on August 22 at the Franklin Jr. High Auditorium in Des Moines, Iowa. Proceeds from the event will be donated to Knowledge Is Power, a local foundation dedicated to helping Des Moines' youth.
Black Wrestlers Matter issued the following statement:
"On August 22, 2020, there will be a professional wrestling show taking place in Des Moines, IA. That show is "Black Wrestlers Matter - A Celebration of Black Professional Wrestling." This show is a fundraiser for Knowledge Is Power. This is a foundation looking to make a difference for youth in Des Moines, providing necessities to those who may not otherwise be able to afford them. This foundation is led by Billy Weathers, professionally known as B. Well, a Des Moines musician.
This event is being held by Jon West, a ten year veteran of the Iowa/Nebraska independent wrestling community. In 2015, Jon began the "Black Wrestlers Matter" movement in hopes of one day running a show that could be considered a celebration of Black Professional Wrestling. August 22, 2020 is that day and Des Moines, IA is that city. Tickets are available at blackwrestlersmatter.bigcartel.com.
Professional wrestling stars from all across the country will be participating in this event, including local stars "American Fury" Jon West and "Queen Bee" Brooke Valentine, regional stars such as Air Wolf and "Frontman" Jah-C, as well as nationally known stars such as Faye Jackson.
The event is being held at Franklin Jr. in the auditorium and will be streamed live for those fans unable to attend, due to the restriction on the number of tickets being sold, as a precaution of COVID-19.
