Becky Lynch Vs. Asuka At WWE Royal Rumble 2019 Not Official - Reason Revealed
Outgoing SmackDown Live General Manager Paige takes the blame...
Dec 22, 2018
It was announced by WWE themselves that Asuka vs. Becky Lynch for the SmackDown Live Women's Championship was on for next month's Royal Rumble event. However, today, it has been revealed that the match is not official with outgoing SmackDown Live General Manager Paige taking the hit.
Here's what Paige tweeted earlier on: "Soooo I tried to make one last match before my time as #SDLive GM came to end...but unfortunately @BeckyLynchWWE vs. @WWEAsuka for the Smackdown Women’s Championship is NOT official for #RoyalRumble. #Oops"
Becky/Asuka was announced during a recent episode of Main Event so it looks like this was the plan WWE initially wanted to go with before they changed their minds and failed to remove the announcement from the aired episode of Main Event... maybe.
The wording of Paige's tweet with the match merely "not official" does still leave the door open for it still to take place, though.
Eyebrows were raised when news of the matchup broke as it was heavily anticipated that Becky would win the Women's Royal Rumble Match and then go on to face Ronda Rousey for the Raw Women's Championship at WrestleMania 35.
