Kazuchika Okada recently made his in-ring debut as a full time member of the AEW roster.

The former New Japan star teamed with the Young Bucks to defeat Adrian Alanis, Jon Cruz and Liam Gray on last week's Collision. Fightful Select has reported on the backstage reaction to his first match, stating:

"We've heard Tony Khan has long been of the belief even before AEW that Okada can be a major heel star on American wrestling TV. Sources in AEW claimed that this past week's performances only solidified that and the company considered it a home run. Particularly, Okada's facial expressions in the spot were received really well. The hope is that in AEW he can do things differently than he's ever done in wrestling in the past, with an already decade-long track record at the top of NJPW.

"We're told that AEW officials were also very happy with the response to the AEW Collision segments that Okada was in, as well as the backstage interview and segments. AEW felt it was important to time his debut for immediately after Sting retired, to give them another big star in a big spot."

Okada turned heel on last week's episode of Dynamite, after running out to seemingly save Eddie Kingston from a Young Bucks beatdown, only to join them in attacking the babyface. He was then announced as the newest member of The Elite.

Fightful's report also indicates that the plan to turn Okada heel was thought of long before he even signed with the promotion (he's featured as a babyface in occasional crossover appearances during his time with New Japan.) Additionally, the plan for the Bucks to "fire" Kenny Omega from their stable was also made in advance, with Fightful suggesting it was made as far back as the holiday period.
