Sting and Darby Allin are your new All Elite Wrestling World Tag Team Champions, with the undefeated team taking the belts from Big Bill and Ricky Starks on the February 7 edition of Dynamite.

The champs didn’t have long to celebrate with their gold as they were heinously assaulted by AEW EVPs Matthew and Nicholas Jackson, surely setting up a tag clash at Revolution on March 3 - Sting’s last ever match.

A report from Fightful Select suggests that Sting was originally opposed to ever winning the tag titles or even competing for them, but some in AEW said that seeing as he and Darby were undefeated in over three years then it made sense from a storyline perspective to have them at least challenge for the belts at some point.

The decision to have Sting and Darby win the titles was apparently made a while back, with Sting obviously going along with the decision. The WCW legend was said to have been ‘all smiles’ backstage following the win on February 7.

Sting is reportedly believed to have had a big hand in picking The Young Bucks as his opponents for his final ever match, with AEW even changing plans and moving Revolution to Greensboro, North Carolina to tie the event into Sting’s storied legacy.
