Austin Aries is certainly a mercurial talent, with the former Ring Of Honor and IMPACT World Champion having burned many bridges during his career.

Aries’ last match in IMPACT came at Bound For Glory 2018, when ‘The Greatest Man That Ever Lived’ dropped the IMPACT World Championship to Johnny IMPACT in the main event. However, Aries would go on to no-sell the finish of the match, and angrily storm off to the back - an act that Aries maintains was part of the plan.

During a conversation with WrestlingNews.co's Steve Fall, Aries reveals that the plan was to have a rematch down the line, but this never ended up happening due to Aries exiting IMPACT after the expiration of his contract:

“So, my only regret for that whole situation was passing on the contract offer that was put on the table after that. We — I never talked about some personal things I was going through at the time, and I just decided that it was in my best interest not to re-sign there. In retrospect, in hindsight, however many years later, I would have made that decision differently,” Aries said. “But that definitely created the perception that — you know, I don’t come back. There is no rematch, there’s no payoff to this. It would seem like I went into business for myself. That was really, looking back, I could kick myself because it really wasn’t for the actual Bound For Glory [moment], it was for not following through with what was planned.”

Since his exit from IMPACT, Aries has worked various indies in the USA, including MLW, Control Your Narrative, and the NWA.
