CM Punk has moved to clarify what the initials 'CF' and 'AC', written on his shoes during recent AEW appearances, have actually meant.

Punk made his long-awaited return to wrestling on AEW Rampage: The First Dance in his hometown of Chicago last month, and has often spoken about what the city means to him.

The 42-year-old garnered more attention after it was noticed by fans that he had 'AC' and 'CF' scribbled on the side of his shows while in the AEW ring, with some speculating that the 'AC' was in reference to recently departed WWE star Adam Cole.

However, Punk says it was all just another nod to Chicago.

Speaking to Joseph Staszewski of the New York Post, Punk said: "I stole this from LeBron James; a lot of basketball players will write messages on their shoes and stuff. I wrote AC on my shoes and CF on the other foot. AC is Always Chicago and CF is Chicago Forever."

Of course, there is always the possibility that Punk is telling a little, white lie, and is enjoying teasing wrestling fans even more amid rumours of more acquisitions for AEW in the near future.
