Last stop before Grand Slam
Sep 16, 2021
AEW made their way to New Jersey for a packed night of wrestling ahead of next week’s huge Grand Slam show at Arthur Ashe Stadium, New York.
And at Arthur Ashe we’ll see one of the biggest matches in AEW history as AEW World Champion Kenny Omega takes on The American Dragon Bryan Danielson. Danielson said he came to AEW to fight The Best Bout Machine, but all he’s seen so far is a guy who hangs out with a bunch of goofy stooges and lets ‘piece of s***’ Don Callis talk for him. Danielson clearly got to Omega, as a defiant Kenny said the two will fight.
Malakai Black addressed The House of Black, and made note of an ‘enemy in his midst’, with actor and Go-Big Show host Rosario Dawson front row in Nightmare Family colours. Black and Dawson went face-to-face as Cody Rhodes made his return to AEW. Black and Cody brawled around ringside, and the two will meet once more at Grand Slam.
The third leg of the Super Kliq Adam Cole made his AEW in-ring debut when he took on Elite Hunter Frankie Kazarian. Cole received a heroes welcome, but Kazarian wasn’t phased, and the two had a good back-and-forth match, with Cole getting the win after a Panama Sunrise and a Last Shot. Post-match, Cole called out Jurassic Express and Christian Cage, challenging three to a six-man tag against himself and The Young Bucks on Rampage.
Later in the show, Christian and Jurassic Express accepted Cole’s challenge: “Since you’re already used to losing Wednesday Night Wars, let’s add Friday to that.” Ouch.
The ‘Suzuki incident’ was addressed, when Suzuki-gun challenged Jon Moxley and Eddie Kingston to a tag match at Grand Slam. In Dynamite’s main event, Mox and Kingston made short work of 2point0 before Kaze Ni Nare played in all it’s glory, as Suzuki-gun and Mox and Kingston brawled all over the arena.
MJF was on venomous form once more, disparaging New Jersey, and continued his verbal assault on Brian Pillman Jr. MJF ‘spoke’ to the late Brian Pillman Sr. telling The Loose Cannon to watch after his son, because if he shows up to Grand Slam then MJF will massacre him. Brian Pillman jumped MJF with a chair, and the two will fight at Arthur Ashe.
Elsewhere, FTR beat a spirited Dante Martin and Matt Sydal. Chris Jericho and Jake Hager answered The Men of the Year’s challenge. Team Taz assaulted CM Punk. And FTR brutally attacked Sting and Darby Allin after Darby’s victory over Shawn Spears.
