It’s Cowboy S*** Day, and you know what that means, as AEW: Dynamite was live from Virginia, for the homecoming of NEW AEW World Champion Adam Page.

And what a homecoming it was, as Page told the Virginia faithful that he earned his title as he celebrated in ring with The Dark Order. It wasn’t long though, until number one contender Bryan Danielson came out, and there was an air of ROH Danielson to the American Dragon. Danielson congratulated, then sniped at Page, saying he’s surprised and frankly disappointed that he won’t be facing Kenny Omega for the title, to which Hangman said not only did he beat Omega, but he did it in less than 30 minutes. Danielson proceeded to criticise Hangman’s work ethic, saying that after he won the World title at WrestleMania, he wrestled the very next night, and the AEW crowd didn’t like that one bit. Danielson fired back “of course Virginia boos hard work.” The two teased fighting for the title right now, but Danielson said Hangman wasn’t prepared, and when Danielson beats him he wants to make sure Page doesn’t haven’t an excuse for losing. Page said fine, before the two had to be separated before they could come to blows.

Danielson’s heel tendencies continued into Dynamite’s opener, as he quite frankly beat seven bells out of Evil Uno, screaming that Uno was going to get “HIS F****** KICKED HEAD IN” and telling ref Aubrey Edwards that he has until five when he wouldn’t break a hold. After disposing of Evil Uno, Danielson vowed to beat his way through The Dark Order, and next week he’ll fight Chicago’s own Colt Cabana as AEW returns to The Windy City.

The other Second City Saint made an appearance on Dynamite, as CM Punk and MJF finally crossed paths. MJF was revelling in his victory over Darby Allin at Full Gear, saying he could defeat anyone in AEW, and should be next in line for the AEW World Championship. But when MJF extended the hand to Punk, Punk just smirked and snubbed him. No promo battle this week, but expect it soon.

We did have title action on Dynamite, as seen in the main event, as Sammy Guevara put the TNT Championship on the line against the debuting Jay Lethal. Lethal was fired up as he showed AEW what he’s made of, as Tony Nese watched on from ringside. The crowd were split with duelling chants, as Guevara and Lethal pulled off some technically crisp counter wrestling. Lethal’s veteran instincts threatened to land him the title, but Guevara scouted the Lethal Injection with a Spanish Fly. The two fought all round the ringside area, with Sammy missing a huge Swanton bomb and crashing straight through the timekeeper’s table. Sammy fought back, but things looked bleak when Lethal locked in the figure four leglock, but he pushed forward, rocking Lethal with a series of knees before mustering up the strength to hit the GTH for the win. Post-match The Inner Circle came out to celebrate with Sammy, offering a handshake to Lethal, who accepted. The Code of Honor remains.

We also saw things hot up in the TBS Title tournament, as Nyla Rose advanced to the semi finals after overcoming Hikaru Shida. Shida looked to be in with a chance of winning the bout after Rose want crashing through a chair on the outside, but Serena Deeb attacked out of nowhere to give The Native Beast the opening she needed, and despite Shida launching a fight back, Rose got the win with a standing Stretch Muffler.

Could cracks be forming in The Elite? Well at the very least it was awkward between Kenny Omega and Adam Cole, as Cole said he’d take care of business when Omega said he’d be taking some time away, with Omega saying he was talking to The Young Bucks, not Cole. Cole would later re-affirm his friendship with Bobby Fish, as the two promised to take care of Jurassic Express. Before Fish could say it was ‘undisputed’ he was cut off by The Bucks. Can’t say that in AEW unless you want to be hit with a cease and desist Bobby.

The forbidden door was wide open once more, as CHAOS ran wild on Dynamite with Orange Cassidy and Tomohiro Ishii in action against HFO’s Butcher & Blade. True to form, Ishii was in full-on Stone Pitbull mode, taking a ton of strikes, but needed to dish out very few to send bodies flying. It all built up to a big ol’ hoss fight as Ishii and Butcher slugged each other something fierce. Eventually CHAOS came out with the win, as Blade ate a delayed brainbuster from Ishii.

Elsewhere: Death Triangle and Cody Rhodes will take on Malakai Black, Andrade el Idolo, and FTR on Rampage. Team Taz reiterated their desire to sign Dante Martin after Martin and Lio Rush put on a clinic with The Acclaimed. The Gunn Club confronted Darby Allin - Billy Gunn will take on Darby on Rampage. And Eddie Kingston is ready to fight 2point0 and Daniel Garcia.
